The Crown and Mitre Hotel was built in 1905 on the site of the original Crown and Mitre Inn which dates back to before the Jacobite Rebellion of 1746. The Inn was demolished in 1902 to make way for the existing Hotel which took 3 years to build.

Ideally situated close to the historic sites of Carlisle, such as Carlisle Cathedral, Carlisle Castle, The Old Town Hall built entirely of sand stone, The Guildhall and Tullie House Museums. Local buses run daily to Hadrians Wall and the famous village of Gretna Green.

Refurbishments have been ongoing within the bedrooms over the past few years. Work has just started on building a new disabled toilets and plans are going ahead to fit new electric front doors and refurbishment of our swimming pool.

The Edwardian Style Crown and Mitre Hotel is situated in the centre of Carlisle, adjacent to Carlisle Cathedral, within easy walking distance of Carlisle Castle and Tullie House Museum opposite the award winning Lanes Shopping Centre.

There are 94 bedrooms, all with en suite facilities, telephone, radio, television with satellite channels, tea/coffee making facilities and central heating. There is a lift to all floors.

The Crown and Mitre Hotel is a busy conference Hotel with meeting rooms to accommodate 2-300 delegates.

All rates include use of the leisure facilities, i.e. swimming pool and Jacuzzi and also entrance to a local gym.

At the end of the day why not relax in our Tavern Bar or enjoy a meal from our extensive a la carte menu in the Peace and Plenty Restaurant.

A great advantage to a city centre Hotel is the car park situated at the rear of the Hotel which is kept locked at all times.

The hotel offers the comfort of a country Hotel but with the added bonus of being situated in the city centre within easy access of shopping and businesses.

Each of our 98 bedrooms has an en suite bathroom, remote control teletext television with satellite channels, radio direct dial telephone and tea and coffee making facilities. Many of our bedrooms have additional features such as a trouser press and hair dryer.

We also have a suite which offers a superior standard of luxury with its own private lounge area.

We also offer an excellent range of family rooms sleeping up to 6 and a number of rooms that look directly into the beautiful town square.
